The Handbook provides an overview of the research into the concept of resilience and the personal skills and environmental resources that help to protect young people from the negative effects of difficult times in their lives. It discusses ways in which schools can foster resilience through whole-school and classroom practices. It also contains a number of assessment instruments that can assist in identifying the capacity for resilient behaviour in individual students as well as the degree to which specific classrooms and teachers foster resilience. A detailed chapter on managing school bullying is included and some suggestions for working collaboratively with parents.
